FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

We built trrrust to be transparent about what we don't keep. Here's everything you need to know.

Basics

What is trrrust?
trrrust is a presence-based, ephemeral messaging app. It lets you have real-time conversations with people who are online right now — and when either of you closes the chat, the entire conversation is gone. No history. No archive. No trace.
How does it work?
trrrust works on three simple rules: 1) Online only — you can only see and message contacts who are live in the app. 2) Last message only — the chat displays only the most recent message. 3) Close and gone — when either person closes the conversation, all content is immediately cleared from both devices.
What platforms is it on?
trrrust is coming soon to Android. iOS is in development. A web version is not planned — ephemeral, session-based communication is best suited to a native mobile environment.
Is it free?
The core messaging experience — text, encryption, presence-based chat — is free and always will be. Premium unlocks features like unlimited contacts, all disguise themes, panic wipe, and multi-device support. Privacy is not a premium feature.

Privacy & Security

Is it really private?
Yes. Every message in transit is end-to-end encrypted. Nothing is written to our servers. We do not log conversations, metadata, or message content. If you close the app, the conversation is gone from our infrastructure immediately.
Can you read my messages?
No. Not because we won't — because we can't. Messages are end-to-end encrypted on your device before they leave it, and the keys never leave your device. If a person drops offline, we hold their last encrypted message for at most five minutes. After that, it's gone.
What happens when I close the app?
The message display is cleared on both devices, the session is terminated on our servers, no content is written to any database, and the connection record is dropped. There is no "recently deleted" folder. There is no recovery path.
Can deleted messages be recovered?
No. This is not a limitation — it is the design. Messages are never written to permanent storage in the first place. There is no server-side backup. There is no cloud sync. Forensic recovery is not possible through us.

Features

How do I add contacts?
You connect with someone by scanning their QR code — or having them scan yours. No phone numbers, no usernames required. You cannot be messaged by someone unless you physically show them your QR code.
What is Disguise Mode?
trrrust opens as an ordinary utility app — a calculator, notepad, or clock. Only your secret code gets past it. On Android, Disguise Mode also changes the app's icon and name on your home screen, so trrrust disappears entirely. On iOS, only the disguise screen applies — the home screen still shows trrrust.
What is Panic Wipe?
Panic Wipe lets you erase all local data instantly by entering a special code in the calculator disguise. Your account survives on the server, but every trace of trrrust's real content is wiped from the device. For the moments when there's no time to explain.

Other

How is trrrust different from Signal?
Signal is excellent for secure persistent communication. trrrust is built for conversations that should leave no trace. Signal stores messages locally and supports cloud backup. trrrust never stores messages at all. Different use cases, not competitors.
Is it legal?
Yes. trrrust is a lawful messaging application, developed and registered in India under Versionhash Technologies LLP. End-to-end encryption and ephemeral messaging are legal in India and in most jurisdictions worldwide.
Why is trrrust 18+ only?
The ephemeral and unmonitorable nature of the app makes it unsuitable for minors. We do not want to create a product that could be used to evade parental oversight or facilitate harm to children.
How do I report abuse?
During a session, use the in-app report button. After a session, contact us at contact@trrrust.com with as much context as you can provide. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours.
